By collaborating with state agencies, county and municipal governments, schools, hospitals, businesses, regional planning boards, and community-based partners, South Jersey Air Quality works to improve regional air quality and enhance better health outcomes while continuing to improve the regions annual grades reported by the American Lung Association. Key focus areas include:
Supporting fleets transitioning to lower emissions vehicles, particularly the adoption of electric school buses.
Promoting the use of electric vehicles (EVs) and expanding charging infrastructure, especially for regional government and corporate fleets.
Reducing the amount of food waste currently sent to regional incinerators or landfills
Supporting public education and outreach initiatives on clean air and environmental health.
Conducting research and partnerships to address transportation-related and solid waste air pollution, which accounts for approximately 40% of air pollution in New Jersey.
Advising local and state policymakers on best practices and innovations for improving air quality.
